Located on the southern tip of Okanagan Lake in between Kelowna and Osoyoos, Penticton is a great stop on an Okanagan wine tour. The region is a little newer on the scene but boasts 355 acres of stunning vineyards. Penticton wineries are known to produce delicious Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, and Rosé, along with Pinot Noir and outstanding sparkling wines.

Along with Summerland, Naramata, and Okanagan Falls, the area has over 170 wineries offering an assortment of reds and whites. Penticton in particular has rich volcanic soils that foster acidity, minerality, and freshness in the grapes.

Poplar Grove Winery

Poplar Grove was one of the original five Naramata Bench vineyards founded in 1993. The winery went on to become a family-owned operation with over 140 acres of estate vineyards. The Holler family focuses on crafting rich, bold reds like their famed Legacy Blend and their dark berry Merlot

Poplar Grove’s tasting room is open daily for the Benchmark Experience tasting. You can sample four hand-selected wines for CAD $10 per person.     Poplar Grove is also home to one of the best Penticton winery restaurants and offers spectacular views of Okanagan Lake.

Laughing Stock

Laughing Stock Vineyards is an award-winning estate vineyard in Penticton that’s definitely worth a visit. The winery was founded by Cynthia and David Enns in 2003 with Bordeaux grape varieties grown on the Naramata Bench. Their flagship wine, Portfolio, is a Bordeaux-style blend that has won several accolades and is consistently praised by wine critics.

You can visit the hillside winery by appointment during spring and summer or join the wine club for exclusive perks. The picturesque Naramata wine tasting is CAD $10 per person with tasting fees waived with purchase.

Three Sisters

Another fabulous Naramata Bench winery, Three Sisters is a full family affair. Owned by the Mikulic family, Three Sisters bottles Penticton nature into their delicious lineup of red and white wines. The Bench Red and Bench White are lovely blends of quintessential Okanagan grapes.    

The tasting room is open daily from 11 AM – 5 PM. Tastings are CAD $10, waived with a purchase from the wine shop. The warm, welcoming atmosphere is a great choice for groups seeking wineries.

Ruby Blues

If you’re looking for the best wineries in Naramata with a funky twist, Ruby Blues is exactly that. The Naramata winery opened in 2008 by Prudence and Beat of Red Rooster Winery. They’ve made their fun boutique winery into a tourist favourite, celebrating fine wine, local artwork, and rock n’ roll music.   

Ruby Blues makes a stellar roster of Pinot Gris, Viognier, and Syrah. Visit the liveliest tasting room in the Okanagan Valley for CAD $10 to sample the wines. Tasting fees are waived with a purchase and the property is one of the best Penticton sights to see!

Lightning Rock

Lightning Rock is one of the best Summerland wineries to visit, especially if you like bubbly. Run by young winemakers, Jordan Kubek and Tyler Knight, Lightning Rock winery produces a delightful assortment of still and sparkling wines. Their three distinct vineyards grow Pinot Noir, Viognier, Syrah, and Chardonnay.

Joie Farm Winery

Aimed at blending European wines with a West Coast lifestyle, JoieFarm Winery does white wines well. Co-founder and Executive Winemaker, Heidi Noble, lives to celebrate the unique flavours of cool-climate Okanagan Valley wines. She’s turned JoieFarm into a successful boutique winery offering aromatic white wines, rosé, bubbles, and Burgundy varietals

JoieFarm is located on the Naramata Bench, which is the perfect setting for lakeside vineyards wine tours. Tastings are offered seasonally from May-October for CAD $25 per person for five wines. Though many Naramata wineries accept walk-ins, JoieFarm is by reservation only.

Nichol Vineyard

One of the oldest vineyards-wineries on Naramata Bench, Nichol Vineyard dates back to 1989, whern the first vintage was planted on the property. It’s the second most northerly winery on the Naramata Bench, fostering low-intervention hand-picked vines. Nichol’s standout whites include Pinot Gris and Blanc de Noir, and red wines include a delicious Syrah

Plan your Penticton wine tours to start or end at Nichol Vineyard to enjoy the best of the old vines. Tastings run from April-October and reservations are encouraged.

Best Wineries in Penticton for Wine Tastings and Tours 

Pentâge Winery

One of the best wineries near Penticton, Pentâge Winery sits on 23 acres overlooking Skaha Lake. The boutique winery, owned by ​​Paul Gardner and Julie Rennie, began in 1996 focusing on world-class low-intervention wines. Their Rosé, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Gris, and Gamay are not to be missed.  

For a slice of Penticton fun, visit Pentage’s natural rock wine cellar. This glacier-formed cellar has become one of the best-hidden gems of Okanagan wineries. Tour the cellar for CAD $20 per person or reserve a wine tasting for CAD $5 per person.

Crescent Hill

Dating back to 1980s, Crescent Hill Vineyard has rooted its wines in tradition. The award-winning family-owned winery started stocking wine bars before venturing into their own portfolio. Now, they craft fun, colourful wines from Gewürztraminer to Chardonnay.  

Visit the wine shop at the north end of Skaha Lake to purchase a bottle or visit the winery for a tasting event. You can plan the perfect day at nearby Penticton spas before settling in for an afternoon wine tasting.

La Frenz

Another of the award-winning Naramata, BC, wineries is La Frenz, one of the most romantic wineries of Penticton. The rolling hills above Lake Okanagan create a picturesque setting for Naramata vineyards. La Frenz produces reds and whites featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Viognier.

Tastings at La Frenz are on a reservation-only basis. Visit when the vineyards open in the spring to sample these great Okanagan wines.

Red Rooster 

Perched high above Okanagan Lake on the Naramata Bench, Red Rooster Winery crafts premium wines with impressive accolades. You’ll find Red Rooster wines to be bold and a little unconventional, using techniques like concrete tanks and natural fermentation. This creates delicious reds like Merlot and Pinot Noir and crisp whites like Pinot Gris and Viognier

If you’re looking for romantic places in Penticton, you’ll want to check out the patio at Bench 1775 Winery. The stunning panorama of Okanagan Lake is complemented by award-winning wines that capture the full expression of the grape. Bench 1775 is one of the top 8 wineries in Canada and top 4 in British Columbia

See Ya Later Ranch

Formerly Hawthorne Mountain, See Ya Later Ranch Winery was the first winery in Okanagan Falls. The beautiful property dates back to the early 1900s and has spectacular Okanagan views. Premium varietals include Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Meritage. Though the wine shop and tasting room are open year-round, the winery is best visited in the summer to enjoy food and wine pairings on the Patio Lounge. Plus, it’s one of the few budget-friendly wineries with reserved tastings available for only CAD $5.

Wild Goose Vineyards & Winery Inc

Family-owned Wild Goose Vineyards has been one of the top Okanagan wineries for over 30 years. They focus on small-batch wines like their famed Stoney Slope Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Visit the tasting room or dine at the Smoke & Oak Bistro to sample some amazing Okanagan BBQ.

Stag’s Hollow Winery 

Stag’s Hollow is a family-owned winery that’s been an Okanagan Falls fixture for over 25 years. 

They’ve adapted unique European grapes to their British Columbia vineyards for a distinctly Okanagan taste. Try their Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, or Vidal on a CAD $10 wine tasting at the gorgeous hillside property.

Blasted Church Vineyards

On the sun-soaked shores of Skaha Lake, Blasted Church brings classical wines to the modern world. Their unique branding is fun and definitely original and can be seen on all bottles including their Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and other complex red blends. Tastings are available seasonally where you can sample selections from the #2 winery in BC and #3 in all of Canada.  Blasted Church was our favourite winery in all of Penticton and is our top suggestion for wineries in Penticton.
