Taxis from Lefkada Town or Vasiliki are available but costly. Some hotels offer transfers or guided tours, particularly in summer. These are a good option if you’re not confident driving Lefkada’s winding roads.

By Boat

Many visitors skip the stairs altogether and arrive by boat. Day cruises from Nidri, Vasiliki, or even nearby Kefalonia often anchor offshore at Porto Katsiki. Some allow passengers to swim ashore or offer short beach stops. The view of the cliffs from the sea is especially dramatic and makes for incredible photos.

Fall (September–October) brings fewer tourists, warm sea temperatures, and quieter conditions. Services begin to scale back in October, but the weather can still be great for a final swim or sunbathing session.

Winter (November–February) is off-season. The beach becomes hard to access due to wind, limited road maintenance, and lack of services. Still, if you’re on the island, the dramatic shoreline is worth a quick visit—just dress for the weather and skip the stairs if conditions are poor.

What to Expect at Porto Katsiki Beach

From the parking lot, a steep stairway of around 100 steps leads down the cliffs to the beach—a dramatic descent that offers one of the best photo ops on the island. The view alone is worth the trip.

The beach is narrow and pebbly, with limited shade. During high season, it gets busy fast, especially by afternoon. Arrive early to find space or rent a sunbed and umbrella, available in summer. A few snack bars near the parking area offer basic food and drinks, but there are no restrooms or changing rooms.

The sea is clear and great for swimming, especially on calm days. If the wind picks up, expect stronger waves and fewer safe entry points along the shore. Wear water shoes if you’re sensitive to pebbles.
