When Drink Tea & Travel launched in May 2014, I was a complete newbie. The only blog I had ever maintained before was a little Tumblr feed with photos and a few updates that kept my Mom and Dad sane while I lived in London and Shanghai. I knew nothing about web design, the business of blogging, or the amount of effort it was going to take to keep up a “professional travel blog”.

The original Drink Tea and Travel design was rather basic. Our web design skills were limited so we used a beginner theme called PageLines DMS, that allowed us to drag and drop sections of the site straight into the front end without having to worry about the code. It was a great theme and for a while it was more than enough.
DRINK TEA AND TRAVEL GETS A FACELIFT
Fast forward 1.5 years and my trusty PageLines DMS Theme was becoming more and more limiting. 200-odd posts were making the site difficult to navigate and some of the content, extremely hard to find. Over time, our posts started to feature more of our photography so we wanted to showcase it in a more visual and impactful way.
Drink Tea and Travel was due for an upgrade!

Many weekends of design, coding, and testing, and today, we are excited to announce a BRAND NEW DRINK TEA AND TRAVEL DESIGN.
- You can now enjoy selected content on Drink Tea and Travel in full width. Our new theme allows you to enjoy our Photo Essays and other Photo heavy posts on all of their glory. Check out this Western Australia Photo Essay, for example.
- There is now a section on the site dedicated to Australia. Head over to the Discover Australia section and browse through the post categories with greater ease.
- Blog posts from other destinations are now easier to browse thanks to the NEW Mega Menu at the top.
- Sunday City Guides, a new yet wildly popular section on Drink Tea and Travel, now has its own Menu Tab, so you can quickly browse through the selection of posts to find the guide you are after. We’ll be adding more and more City Guides to this section over time.
…and more! Head over to the home page and check it out! (This link will open in a new window so you can keep on reading when you are done checking out the new design)
But wait, there is MORE!
FROM ME TO WE
It’s been a long time coming. The truth is, Drink Tea and Travel may have started off a recount of a tea-loving girl on a journey around the world, but over the last year, it has morphed into a travel diary of a tea loving couple. Max and I have been traveling the world together since April 2013, and while some of the earlier stories on the blog still recap my solo travels, majority of the new posts are highlights of our escapades as a couple on a mission to see the world for less.
And Max hasn’t just been a partner in travel. When it comes to Drink Tea and Travel, he’s been my right hand and my biggest supporter from the very beginning. He’s helped me with design, SEO, and most importantly been the guinea pig/editor for all my posts. He’s even written a few posts himself!
It’s now time to give him some credit for all the hard work he’s done.
You can read more about Max and I and our story and recent adventures on our NEW ABOUT US page.
The redesign looks great! With the PageLines version, the comments section always showed up weirdly for me. Everything on the new site is sleek and functional (and I like how you kept the green for the links and buttons)!
So happy to hear you like the new design, Polly! And glad you are no longer experiencing issues when commenting. Thanks so much for your feedback! 🙂
Congratulations Oksana, good user-experience and great look! 🙂
